Vigga was born in N-Hvamma in Mýrdal. She was not appreciated in her own home and left to wander when she was only 10 years old. Vigdís wandered mostly between towns in Mýrdal and was always welcome everywhere. She was very happy when she was handed some rags, numbers, wool or ribbon, because she used them to decorate her clothes. Vigga was well-mannered, knew a lot of poetry and could be witty in allusions.
